Interesting that no murders or accidental deaths have ever occurred at gun shows, where there are guns every 2 feet. Another interesting fact, more children die in pool accidents than gun accidents. Florida's crime rate has dropped 54% since Florida enacted conceal carry. Just one of the states, google concealed carry states and see the crime rate reductions for yourself. Interesting that these facts are never discussed by a certain forum member that likes to post firearm accidents. Any reason why? Thomas Jefferson had a great quote about firearm control. Google it.

"Any reason why"?

Yes because these are really stupid things to say on multiple levels. Just plain dumb.

One, because even though its is strictly forbidden to bring a loaded gun into a gun show (how is that hypocrisy?) if you had read GunFail you'd know they still have accidental shootings at gun shows.

Second, because there is no connection between concealed carry states and a reduction in crime:

And third children being killed by guns (as opposed to drowning in swimming pools) in only one part of the gun problem even if we only count accidental killings let alone shootings, killings, and suicides.

And before you even say something more stupid such as more people are killed in car accidents I'll save you from your own stupidity and point out we have all kinds of regulations on cars than we do on guns. There are far more cars and car owners. A car is a necessity for most people where guns aren't And even with all that in some states you are more likely to be killed by a gun than a car accident.

Ok I admit I've only looked it the first couple pages of posts, it seems like so many topics the players are going to take the extreme one side or the other, I own guns hunting rifles and pistols, assault style well s don't do much for me but I can understand other likeing them more like Micheal Angelo vs Picasso (I know how dare I compare the two. Get over it and just get the point) I'm ex military so yes I like shooting pistols, but I do it at targets, try to remember shooting is a sport, it is in the Olympics.
Guns arent just for killing many of them are pieces of art and marvels of engineering, as far as Canada goes I may be nieve but I've never heard any of these terrorist or other stories what I do know after working with several Canadian civilians and coast guard what a great nation of people. Yes there are extremist every where but I hope there are more rational people. PS why let them goad you? It's what they want, give them attention and they will keep going.

One person has been hospitalized after being wounded by shrapnel at a Frisco firing range.

According to the Frisco Police Department, an emergency call was received from the Frisco Gun Club on Eldorado Parkway at about 2:15 p.m. after a customer was injured while reloading.

Officials said the bullet exploded after it was inadvertently dropped to the ground while being loaded into a magazine.

The exploding round sent shrapnel flying into the customer's side, causing a minor injury. The customer was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment with injuries that are not life threatening.

On Tuesday, an Irving SWAT officer with more than 20 years on the force was injured at a gun range when fragments from a discharged round ricocheted and hit the officer in the hand. The officer was hospitalized and expected to be released Tuesday evening.

The investigation into Wednesday's incident is ongoing.

Almost too weird. I don't think I've ever heard of a modern bullet discharging from just being dropped on the ground. Although I did kill one of my wife's vacuum cleaners one time when my son got careless with one of his .22 shells and didn't realize he'd dropped one into the shag carpet. Then I came along with the vacuum cleaner, sucked it up into the rotating head, and it went off and killed the rotating head instantly. But I could see how that could happen mechanically with a rim fire. But sure never heard of a shell going off just by dropping it.

AZ man shoots self in head demonstrating gun's double safety

Another typical week, with an initial 35 incidents to report, 14 of which involve self-inflicted accidental gunshot wounds. It's still by far the most "popular" type of GunFAIL accident. Together with those accidentally Second Amendmented by family members (of which there were seven reports for the week), they account for 60% of the incidents listed. Nine minors were among the victims as well, ranging in age from 2 to 15 years old, and including three fatalities.

Three people accidentally fired weapons while cleaning them, which of course means that they were making some pretty serious (if all-too-common) mistakes. Three people were accidentally shot at the practice range. Five GunFAIL incidents involved trained law enforcement or security personnel, and four helpful patriots shared liberty projectiles with a neighboring property owners.

I don't have a whole lot for you by way of additional narrative this time. The stories that stand out from among the collection are just a little too tragic. But there's definitely something in common and very much worth pointing out about the stories from Opelousas, LA, where a man who accidentally shot his brother to death then turned his gun on himself in remorse and took his own life, as well as the title story this week, from Heber-Overgaard, AZ, involving a man who contrived to prove the "double safety" of his gun by putting it to his head and pulling the trigger. And that something is: we have seen both of those fact patterns before. This is at least the second time I've passed on a story of a man who shot himself demonstrating what he thought was the impossibility of his gun firing, and the third time I've reported on a pair of brothers who died by a combination of accidental gunshot followed by an immediate, grief-stricken suicide.

Even the most shocking tragedies are beginning to fall into regular patterns. And it hasn't even been three years yet.

The girl was shot in the leg about 1:10 AM Sunday in a home in the 37000 block of Muddy Neck Road near Ocean View, Master Cpl. Gary E. Fournier said. Investigation determined the shooting occurred as Joseph M. Jenkins Jr., 38, showed his wife a gun he had gotten from a friend after his shotgun was stolen during a burglary, Fournier said. State police had taken a burglary report from the couple about 9 PM Saturday, he said, noting that an undisclosed amount of cash also was stolen. After troopers left the home, Jenkins went to visit a friend of his, returning home about 1 AM, Fournier said. Upon his entering the house, Fournier said, “his wife woke up from sleeping on the floor in the living room.” As the couple’s three children – two 2-year-old girls and a 10-year-old boy – slept on a nearby sofa, Jenkins sat on the floor by his wife to show her a .40 caliber handgun he had gotten from his friend, Fournier said. As Jenkins pulled back on the gun’s slide and let go, a bullet fired and hit one of the girls, he said. The mother immediately called 911, he added. A Delaware State Police Aviation Unit helicopter took the girl to Nemours/Alfred I. du Pont Hospital for Children in Rockland, Fournier said. She was being treated later Sunday, he said, but her condition was not disclosed. Her father was taken into custody and charged with first-degree assault, firearm possession during commission of a felony and three counts of endangering the welfare of a child. Lacking $41,500 secured bail, he was committed to Sussex Correctional Institution near Georgetown.

(link removed), 8/30/15: Vermont State Police say a man cleaning his handgun at a campsite accidentally shot his 9-year-old daughter in the stomach, sending her to the intensive care unit. The shooting happened Sunday morning at a campsite in a wooded area off U.S. Route 4 in Ira. Police say the father, Randy Babcock, was cleaning the .22-caliber handgun when it went off. Family members carried McKenzie Ezzo to a rest area, where they were met by emergency personnel. Police say McKenzie underwent surgery and is in guarded condition at a hospital. Police are investigating the shooting.

(link removed), 8/30/15: At approximately 11:30 PM on August 30, 2015 Harrison County 911 dispatchers received a call from Good Shepherd Hospital in Longview regarding a shooting victim in the emergency room. Deputies were dispatched to the emergency room and met with Trey Glenn Adams, W/M/ 07-03-1969, who stated he was target shooting with a friend earlier in the evening. He left the friend’s residence on Waldron’s Ferry Road and placed the weapon on his lap. He stated he thought the weapon was unloaded and when he reached for the weapon, he placed his finger on the trigger and it discharged. He was struck in the left thigh by the bullet and it then went through the driver’s door.

(link removed), 8/30/15: An Opelousas man shot himself late Sunday night after seeing that he had accidentally shot and killed his brother while they were playing with a handgun, St. Landry Sheriff Bobby Guidroz reported Monday. Two brothers died last night after a double shooting just outside of Opelousas. Guidroz said the shooting occurred at about 11:30 PM Sunday in the 200 block of Magnolia Street. Deputies responded to a report of a suicide. When deputies arrived at the residence they found two men with gunshot wounds in the outdoor kitchen area of the home. Both of them died from their injuries. A witness, in the room when the shootings occurred, told deputies that Joshua Miller was playing with the handgun which he believed to be unloaded. According to the witness, Joshua Miller, 27, of New Roads, picked up the handgun, pointed it at his brother, Jeremiah Miller, 25, of Ventress, and pulled the trigger. The younger brother was shot in the chest, Guidroz reported. After realizing what he had done, Joshua then turned the gun on himself and fired a fatal shot, killing himself, the sheriff said. “After talking to the witness and from all indications, it doesn’t appear to have been an intentional act to kill his brother,” Guidroz said.

(link removed), 8/30/15: A stray shot at a Salinas firing range sparked a blaze that burned 48.8 acres and took dozens of firefighters to contain. The Monterey County Herald reports (link removed) that the fire began around 1 p.m. Sunday when a shooter at the Laguna Seca Rifle and Pistol Range accidentally shot a concrete culvert that diverts rainwater. A spark from the bullet ignited nearby grass. Ten fire trucks, two air tankers, two helicopters, about 40 firefighters and two prison inmate crews responded to the blaze. It was extinguished after about an hour. There were no injuries and no structures were destroyed. Officials say there will be no charges for the shooter or fines for the range, which will be taking out the concrete culvert.

(link removed), 8/31/15: A woman was grazed by a bullet after a gun apparently was accidentally discharged in a neighboring house, Lexington police said Monday. The shooting was reported shortly before 2 PM in the 3600 block of Bold Bidder Drive, Lexington police Sgt. Ann Welch said. The victim's injury wasn't life-threatening, Welch said. The person responsible for the accidental discharge fled and had not been located by 4 PM Monday, Welch said. Bold Bidder Drive is off Armstrong Mill Road, inside Man o' War Boulevard.

(link removed), 8/31/15: A confrontation between a security guard and another man inside a state Driver License Division office resulted in a shot from the security guard's gun being fired. No one was injured in the incident and the man the security guard was fighting surrendered immediately after hearing the shot, according to police. The incident happened just after 10 AM at the Driver License Office at 2780 W. 4700 South. A 21-year-old man got into an argument with one of the clerks at the counter and was asked to leave, said West Valley police spokesman Sam Johnson. The man walked outside, but then turned around and went back in to continue his argument. As the security guard attempted to escort the man back out, the two became engaged in a physical fight. At one point, both were on the ground struggling with each other, Johnson said. During the struggle on the ground, a shot was fired from the security guard's gun into the ceiling. Investigators were looking Monday at whether the shot was fired intentionally or accidentally or whether the gun was even removed from the security guard's holster when it went off. Rujal Hassan Abdi, 21, was arrested for investigation of assault and disorderly conduct. A 17-year-old boy originally believed to be involved was also briefly taken into custody but was released a short time later when it was determined he was not involved in the altercation, Johnson said. A protective order was taken out against Abdi on June 30, according to state court records, and he was charged with aggravated assault, a third-degree felony, in 3rd District Court on Aug. 7 in a domestic violence-related case for allegedly attacking his girlfriend who was five months' pregnant with their child. A pretrial protective order was reinstated on Aug. 18. Abdi was booked into the Salt Lake County Jail on Thursday on a warrant, according to court records. The Department of Public Safety contracts out security at the driver license offices to private security companies. Citadel Security employs the guards at the West Valley office.

(link removed), 9/01/15: A 19-year-old is dead, after accidentally shooting himself while posing for photos with a gun. According to Houston police, some youth at an apartment complex in the 9800 block of Forum Park in southwest Houston found a gun and brought it back to their apartment. Police say they were posting photos to social media when the 19-year-old accidentally shot himself and died. "It's the worst feeling of my life," said Eric Douglas, the victim's uncle. "A numb feeling. It's like still unbelievable," said Alma Douglas, the victim's grandmother. "Yesterday was my birthday. He came to wish me a happy birthday. And then to hear this kind of news. He was starting community college tomorrow." Family members say the teen was supposed to start classes at Houston Community College. The young father leaves behind two small children, ages one and three, according to relatives. There's no word yet who may have owned the gun, and if any charges could be filed.

(link removed), 9/01/15: The G.B.I. says the DeKalb County police officer that entered the wrong home for a burglary call was accidentally shot by another officer, not by the homeowner. The incident happened on Boulderwoods Drive around 7:35 Monday night. Three officers arrived at the residence and attempted to contact any occupants inside. When no contact was made, the officers made their way around to the rear of the home and gained entry to the residence through a screened porch. The G.B.I. said police went through a "reportedly unlocked door". Upon entry, the officers encountered a dog. Two officers fired their weapons striking and killing the animal. A male in the home, later determined to be the homeowner, was also shot by the responding officers. One of the police officers, identified as Travis Jones, was shot in the hip. The G.B.I. says their early investigation indicates Jones was likely shot accidentally by one of the other officers at the scene. The injured officer, who was transported to Grady Memorial Hospital, is in "in serious but stable condition", according to DeKalb County Police PIO Capt. Steven Fore. The officer "lost a lot of blood," DeKalb County Public Safety Director Dr. Cedric Alexander said on Monday. Alexander said officers received a vague location description of the possible burglary-in-progress call. The 911 call described the home as a brick and tan one-story home. Neighbors tell 11Alive the call was not a robbery in progress call, but a suspicious persons call. 11Alive has requested the audio and transcript of that 911 call. DeKalb County Police have declined to release that information at this time. The homeowner, identified as 36-year-old Christopher McKinley, also suffered a gunshot wound to his leg. He was treated at Atlanta Medical Center and released. The GBI identified the other officers involved as Officer Quhuanna Lloyd, and Officer Timothy Harden. Dr. Alexander asked the Georgia Bureau of Investigation to take over investigation of the incident. Tuesday morning, the G.B.I. released their first public report. After the investigation is complete, it will be turned over the the district attorney for "any action the district attorney deems appropriate".

(link removed), 9/01/15: A 2-year-old boy has died after being accidentally shot in the chest Tuesday afternoon near Pittsburgh. According to our CBS sister station KDKA, emergency officials and police were first called to the Allegheny Dwellings apartments on Sandusky Court around 5 PM. The boy was taken to Allegheny General Hospital where he died from the injuries. “We were called because a 2-year-old male child was shot in the chest,” said Pittsburgh Police spokesperson Sonya Toler. “The child was rushed to AGH by paramedics, and has since been pronounced deceased. We are trying to determine the facts of how that happened at this point.” Paramedics and police tried to help him at the scene. Police said one adult was in the apartment when the shooting happened, but the child did not live there. According to KDKA, one man is being questioned.

(link removed), 9/01/15: A Riverside County sheriff's deputy accidentally shot himself when a dog charged at him in Lake Elsinore, authorities said. The deputy was responding to a residence in the 40900 block of Diana Lane about 9 AM Tuesday, Sept. 1, after reports of a suspicious person looking through windows, Deputy Mike Vasquez wrote in a email. Vasquez said it was during this time the deputy encountered a Rottweiler. "The dog charged at the deputy," Vasquez wrote,"and in an effort to protect himself, he fell backwards while drawing his duty weapon and unintentionally shot himself in the leg." The deputy was treated at the scene for his non-life-threatening wound before being transported to a nearby hospital, according to Vasquez. The Rottweiler was not injured, Vasquez said.

(link removed), 9/01/15: The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office says a mother bear that sought refuge in a tree after her two cubs were shot by a Colorado man has finally climbed down. A homeowner in Evergreen shot the cubs. He says he found them and the mother bear rummaging through his trash. The sheriff's office says the man reported that he first fired rubber rounds, but when his dog escaped and started fighting with the mother bear, he fired a live round. One cub was killed instantly. The other was injured so severely that it had to be put down. The mother bear ran across the street and up a tree where she remained for the rest of the day. The sheriff's office says the live round also went through a neighbor's window. The man's name has not been released. He is facing charges.

(link removed), 9/01/15: A 65-year-old Marion man died yesterday following an apparent accidental shooting. According to the Smyth County Sheriff’s Office, just before 8 PM Tuesday, Sept. 1, deputies and sheriff’s investigators responded to a call of a shooting at 560 Snider’s Branch Road in Marion. Upon arrival, a sheriff’s office press release said, they found Johnny Michael Adamson, who had apparently been killed by a single gunshot wound. Adamson’s body was taken to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Roanoke for an autopsy. At this time, the press release said, the incident appears to have been accidental with only the victim involved. No foul play is suspected. The case will remain open pending the final report from the Medical Examiner’s Office, but, the press release said, no change in the case’s status is expected.

(link removed), 9/01/15: A 55-year-old Newport News man was charged after a gun he was reportedly handling discharged and shot his wife in the face, an official said. Lewis Powell was arrested and charged with reckless handling of a firearm in connection with the incident Tuesday night, according to Newport News police spokeswoman Holly McPherson. Investigators believe Powell and his wife had been drinking and were both handling the firearm when it discharged and struck her in the face, McPherson said. Her injury is not believed to be life-threatening.

(link removed), 9/01/15: A 28-year-old man was arrested for fatally shooting a man in the Bronx — then accidentally shooting himself when he ran away from the scene, police said Wednesday. Adonijah Colbourne was charged with murder in the slaying of Rahim Minkins, 22, Tuesday morning in front of 1023 Rev. James Polite Ave., cops said. Minkins was blasted in the forehead and body at 4 AM, cops said. He was rushed to Lincoln Hospital but couldn’t be saved. Colbourne accidentally shot himself in the groin as he ran off and called 911 from his home on E. 166th St. looking for help. He was treated at Lincoln Hospital, officials said. Colbourne was also charged with manslaughter and criminal possession of a weapon. His arraignment was pending Wednesday. The alleged gunman had 15 prior arrests for drugs and robbery. Minkins had 11 prior arrests, mostly for robbery, officials said. The shooting was sparked by an ongoing street crew beef in the area, a police source said.

(link removed), 9/01/15: A teen has been arrested Wednesday in connection to a shooting that left another teen hospitalized. Jacquavius Smith, 15, and a 17-year-old were on the patio of a house in Pine Hills Tuesday when Smith accidentally shot the other teen, according to Orange County sheriff's investigators. Investigators said the two initially told them that they didn't know how the teen was shot, leading investigators to believe that the boy might have been hit by a stray bullet, possibly from a passing car. That led to an extensive search for clues and a shooter Tuesday evening. The injured teen was taken to Orlando Regional Medical Center where he was reported to be stable. His name has not been released. "Are you surprised that would happen?" Channel 9 reporter Karla Ray asked resident David Cintron. "Not at all," Cintron said. "Not in this neighborhood. Smith was charged with aggravated battery with a firearm and unlawful discharge of a firearm and also has a violation of probation for trespassing, investigators said. He was taken to the Orange Regional Juvenile Detention Center.

(link removed), 9/01/15: 100 block of Sturges Avenue, Mansfield — A 64-year-old man Tuesday while cleaning his gun accidentally discharged it. The bullet traveled through the front window of the business and towards a neighboring home. Officers seized the man’s firearm and submitted it to the lab. The man told police he must have forgotten a round was in the chamber and accidentally pulled the trigger. The man showed police his concealed carry permit. Police checked the home for a bullet hole and attempted to make contact with the occupants with negative results.

(link removed), 9/02/15: The Navajo County Sheriff’s Office is investigating an accidental self-inflicted shooting that occurred Wednesday, Sept. 2. A 23-year-old man was reportedly taken to the Heber-Overgaard Fire Department with a gunshot wound to the head at 8:48 AM. Chief Deputy James Molesa said Christen Reece, a Phoenix resident, was shooting with six others in the area south of Highway 277 on Gibson Road outside Overgaard when he reportedly tried to show his handgun had a double safety and could not be fired. He reportedly placed the gun to his head to illustrate the weapon could not be fired and shot himself in the head. His friends drove him to the fire department where paramedics began to treat him. He was airlifted to Scottsdale Osborn Hospital and underwent surgery. Four individuals fled the scene, two of which have been identified but not yet located or interviewed, Molesa said. Reece’s prognosis is unknown at this time and is listed in condition is critical, Molesa added. Sheriff’s detectives continue to investigate the incident.

(link removed), 9/02/15: No one was injured when a security officer accidentally discharged his weapon overnight. Bernie Tracy, a spokesperson for Yale Security, said it happened around 1 AM at the Hyatt Reservation Center as an officer was securing his firearm while still in his patrol car. The company says they are still investigating how it happened and will take internal action. “Safety is very important to us,” Tracy said, adding that it is the first time it has happened in Omaha. The only damage was to the floor of the patrol car, he said.

(link removed), 9/02/15: An 11-year-old boy died late Wednesday after he was hit by accidental gunfire in a Greater Grand Crossing home. About 9 PM, Antwone J. Price was in a home in the 7400 block of South St. Lawrence Avenue when a family member accidentally shot him in the abdomen, police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office said. Antwone, who lived in the same block, was taken to Comer Children’s Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, authorities said. Officers took one person into custody after the shooting, police said. According to a police source, a gun was found outside the home after the shooting. Late Wednesday, at least eight people were killed and 12 wounded in Chicago shootings throughout the day.

(link removed) 9/02/15: A 22-year-old woman was injured after accidentally shooting herself at a gun range in Blair County on Wednesday, state police said. Megan Emily Houts, of State College, was shooting clay targets at the Bald Eagle Sportsman Association range in Snyder Township just after 5 PM when she "lost control of the shotgun" she was using, police said. A piece of the barrel broke off of the gun and the butt of the gun struck the roof of the structure she was standing on, causing both loads of the shotgun to discharge, police said. Houts was struck in the upper body and head and was taken to a hospital in Altoona for treatment. An update on her condition was not available.

(link removed), 9/03/15: A shooting in Rankin County leaves a five-year-old girl hospitalized after deputies say her ten-year-old brother pulled the trigger. The day's events still remain a terrifying experience for a woman who lived just down from where the shooting happened, along Perez Cove in Rankin County. The neighbor, who gave her name as Bertha, said she heard shots ring out, which wasn't unusual since a shooting range sits not far from their property. Then she heard cries for help. When she ran to the house, she saw two children: one shot just below the collarbone area, and another pleading for someone to help her. Bertha said no one was at the home when the shooting took place. She says her motherly instincts just kicked in when she heard the cries for help and called 911, preparing to take the child to a Mendenhall hospital. Paramedics ended up airlifting the girl to UMMC because of the seriousness of her injuries. Sheriff Bryan Bailey said the girl's nine-year-old brother shot her with a 22-caliber pistol. He said the bullet remained lodged in the victim's spine. "Our biggest concern, along with the family, is the welfare of the child, her getting better, and our prayers go out to her and her family," Bailey said. "We are going to look into it and find out how the nine year old ended up with a weapon." Bailey said investigators are treating this as an accidental shooting at this point. It remains under investigation. We're told the victim is expected to make a full recovery.

(link removed), 9/03/15: A man who accidentally shot himself in the leg at an Upper Sandusky residence on Thursday was in stable condition today at Wyandot Memorial Hospital. Roland Bashore, 56, of Pennsburg, Pennsylvania, accidentally shot himself in the left thigh with his brother-in-law’s handgun about 9 PM Thursday, Upper Sandusky police reported. The shooting occurred at 327 S. Hazel St. It appears there will be no charges in the incident, police reported.

(link removed), 9/04/15: An investigator with the Arkansas attorney general’s office accidentally shot himself in the back outside of a Little Rock restaurant Friday evening, police said Saturday. An incident report from Little Rock police said Stephen Svetz, 58, was outside of South on Main, 1304 Main Street, at 5 PM trying to remove his gun from its holster and put it in his car when the gun went off and a bullet hit Svetz in the lower back. Svetz was transported to CHI St. Vincent Infirmary in Little Rock with a non-life threatening injury. Judd Deere, communications director for the Attorney General Leslie Rutledge, said the attorney general’s office is investigating.

(link removed), 9/04/15: Milwaukee police now say a reported shooting involving a 10-year-old girl in Washington Park was fabricated. Police said the 10-year-old girl indicated she was playing with friends on Friday evening, September 4th around 5:30 PM when she heard a “pop” and realized she was shot. Police said the girl then walked home and was taken to a hospital two hours later by her parents for treatment of a minor injury. Now, police say further investigation into this incident has revealed the girl fabricated the story after she accidentally shot herself while playing with a firearm in her home. Police say an investigation into the incident, including how the girl accessed the gun is ongoing.

(link removed), 9/04/15: On Friday, Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Deputy Lt. Greg Duke and Deputy Terry Holderness were called to a Georgetown Road residence regarding a rifle round that had entered the house. Fortunately, no one was injured. Lt. Duke and Deputy Holderness followed the sound of shooting to a property east of the complainant where they confronted the property owner and his son. They said they were shooting recreationally. Although this appears to be an accident, a report will be forwarded to the Bartholomew County Prosecutor’s Office. Bartholomew County Sheriff Matt Myers wants to remind residents that shooting safety is your responsibility. Whether you are interested in recreational shooting, competition, or hunting, you must make it safe for everyone by making it a point to practice and teach proper firearm safety. “Just as the folks shooting in this incident apparently thought they were being safe, a bullet ended up in the home of another resident,” said Sheriff Myers.

(link removed), 9/04/15: At 9:55 PM, emergency personnel responded to an accidental gunshot wound at a home on Willow Creek Road outside of Lander. An 82-year-old man accidentally fired a small caliber handgun into his upper leg. He was taken to the emergency room.

A man told police he was driving near Shawnee Avenue and McMillan Street when he notice a man limping with his shirt off and a gunshot wound. He then picked the man up and drove to South Lauderdale Street where he flagged down an ambulance. The man was taken to Regional Medical Center in critical condition. Investigators said the victim told paramedics he was accidentally shot. The man did not give the location where he was shot. This is an ongoing investigation.

(link removed), 9/05/15: A 66-year-old man was injured about noon Saturday when he accidentally shot himself in the leg, police say. The man was taken to Healthmark Regional Medical Center at 12:45 PM, according to a news release from the DeFuniak Springs Police Department. The man reportedly was showing off his .22-caliber pistol to another person at a gun shop. When he tried to holster the weapon, the hammer snagged and fired as the man tried to free it, the news release said. The bullet lodged in his right thigh. He drove himself to the hospital, where he was expected to be treated and released Saturday afternoon, police reported. Although officers are investigating, they say no charges are expected.

Sheriff's deputies were called to a home off Rocklane Road, east of Interstate 65, at 3 PM Saturday. A man was trying to unload a .38 caliber revolver when it fired, according to the police report. The round traveled through the man's hand and into the floor, the report said. He was taken to Indiana University Health Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis by emergency workers, the report said.

A witness told Pittsburgh police that Gene Livingston, 40, of Marshall/Shadeland handed Scott Cutler, 38, of Spring Garden a handgun at about 1:30 AM along Belleau Drive, police said. Cutler fired several shots at a wall, and one of the bullets ricocheted and struck Livingston in the leg. When security officers from the Housing Authority of the City of Pittsburgh's Allegheny Dwellings responded, Cutler surrendered and Livingston ran, police said. Livingston was later caught. Police said the men face charges including reckless endangerment, discharging a firearm into an occupied structure and illegal gun possession.

Not if Harrisburg Police Chief Thomas Carter can help it. Damaged on cars ranged from scratches and fist-sized dents, to entire hoods of vehicles caved in and side mirrors ripped off. Inside 2nd and Verbeke Mini Market and Gas, about 15 kids came inside the store, damaging or stealing about $200-300 of merchandise. At some point, a 15-year-old shot himself in the leg and was taken to Harrisburg hospital. He is not cooperating with police, Carter said. He was unsure how many people were arrested as of 4 PM Sunday, but several related to the incident have been.

He said Hall pulled the gun from her waist and fired at him, and Hall's son fell to the floor.

Wisconsin man fined $50, keeps gun after shooting roommate while teasing cat with laser sight

A Wisconsin man who accidentally shot his roommate was fined $50 last week, but will be allowed to keep his gun.

The La Crosse Tribune ( that 22-year-old Vaughn Rothering was teasing his cat with the laser sight on his 9mm pistol when the gun discharged, striking his roommate in the ankle.

In return for a guilty plea, prosecutors requested that Rothering only be required to pay a fine. He is also eligible to have his felony expunged, which would allow him to lawfully own firearms.

Rothering’s total court costs totaled $591, including a $50 fine. He was also expected to pay restitution, but the amount had not been determined.

“You could have easily killed your friend,” La Crosse County Circuit Judge Ramona Gonzalez told the suspect. “You’ve probably punished yourself more than we could ever punish you.”

“I feel terrible about it,” Rothering reportedly said.

I only do GunFails. Accidents you know. I never post on the just common every hour occurrence of some tragic story about some human being shooting and killing another human being on purpose. Its a lot easier that way. Then I don't have to explain how someone shoots and kills a Trooper who was trying to help him.

But if you do have an explanation about that and how to prevent it I'd be real glad to know.

But in the meantime shouldn't you be proud?

The Second Amendment is a small part of the United States Constitution. It is not the whole document.

Hey Dawg, our government has found many ways to SUBVERT their way around parts of The Constitution, in order to grant themselves powers that the document never meant for them to have. The Second may be a small part of the document, but I have chosen to draw the proverbial line in the sand just this side of it. I do not revere the Constitution. There are parts I would like to change.

I would like a new Constitution, but I think we should wait to call a Second Constitutional Convention until the electorate is less polarized.
